Diamonds in the news: Blue Nile stock trips on analysts' expectations
Excerpt:
If Wall Street were to hand Blue Nile a theme song, it would have to be "Getting to Know You" from "The King and I."
The Seattle online retailer yesterday beat analysts' earnings estimates by 2 cents, reporting a second-quarter profit of $1.9 million, or 11 cents a share, in its first quarterly financial report as a public company.
While sales rose 29 percent to $35 million, that number narrowly missed analysts' consensus estimates of $35.3 million.
Add to that a full-year profit forecast that fell short of expectations, and Blue Nile's shares fell a dizzying $6.04, or 18.1 percent, to close at $27.25.
