You mean telemarketers don't like having their day interrupted by the telephone?

God bless Dave Barry. His column on telemarketers gave out the phone number of a telemarketing association so that people could discuss with them what they thought of telemarketing. They weren't amused. How shocking, who would have thought that having people you don't know call you would disturb anyone? I'm sure Dave Barry meant no harm...

Comments:

The number Dave Barry published has been disconnected.

The new phone number for the American Teleservices Association is 1-500-866-4272.

If a telemarketer ever calls you, just ask him/her why he/she is tresspassing on your phone line and/or phone number.
You will get a response like I'm not trespassing.
Just ask them if you can enter their house or apartment any time you wish. If they say no, then ask why. If they say because I own it or lease it and no one is allowed to enter it without permission. Then tell them you are renting the phone line and phone number from telephone compnay and if your not allowed to enter their place without permission or invitation then their not allowed to enter your phone line you are renting with out permission or invitation.

then hang up phone.

You people are very rude. It's not trespassing you idiots. the way the economy is people have to take a job doing whatever they can find, I hope you people are proud of yourselves, you think your so smart. If you don't want to hear what people have to say then hang up...don't waste my time. if you don't want to hear what i have to say I don't want to tell you. stop taking food from my children's mouths you jerks.

to Wayne B - Why should we NOT waste your time? Your call has already wasted our time by making us come to the phone for a pointless call, interrupting our dinner, shower, nap, or whatever. I plan to waste as much of a telemarketers time as possible, patiently listening to their entire spiel and THEN saying only "Please place me on your do not call list". If they're on the phone with me for 5 minutes, that's probably 4 other people they didn't get to bother. If I'm having a really good day and feeling generous, I'll say it before they get past the "I'm calling you about..." and save them some time. I found some audio tones on the internet that I can put on the beginning of my answering machine message so that auto-dialers will hear the quick tones and hang up. I'm seriously considering adding those to the start of our answering machine greeting to do just that (it's the same tones the TeleZapper uses, but the audio downloads are free.)
Yes, I know about the new DirectQuest dialer that's supposed to render the TeleZapper obsolete, but when I get my PC reading caller ID's from the modem and hanging up on all but the people I want to hear from, you can just give up.

I am a telemarketer, but I also study at the same time. That right, a TELEMARKETER! What does that tell you? If you're normal, it should tell you that I am working to pay off college instead of feeding off tax-payers money in well-fare or getting money from parents like a spolied brat! Nobody actually WANTS to be known as a telemarketer, but hey, why hate us simply because we make more money than y'all BEFORE (or without) a complet education! You want the gouvernment to shut down all telemarketing companies? Done! Let's see how this country can run without our tax dollars. Why don't you all hate the f**king baseball (oe football) players that make more than triple your annual income PER AT-BAT on top of f**king up your bets. It's not like you never buy anything from anyone. And what about your rich fat bosses who get rich by never taxes by using loopholes? How about the tabaco industry? Remember one thing... NEVER be mean to someone who has your information. He can do anything... subcribe you to porn, junk-mail (not only on-line), open EBay accounts, ... the list goes on... so BEWARE. While you plan on how to f*** with a telemarketer's emotions just so he can't sell anymore and be out of job, we plan how to f*** your name and your children's future up!
