An economics commentator, Dr. Brett has written a paper about Botswana & the Diamonds Trade. He contends that Botswana became an African success story almost from day one using its diamond resources to sustain an unprecedented rate of economic growth.
The way Diamonds are bought & sold, often with cash, nothing will stop them from being sold from any country. A ban may make it harder, but the people dealing in these diamonds will continue to do so and will never have trouble finding buyers.

The main idea here is to curb it. If people know its illegal, there is less chance that someone would do this!
Its like raising a child. If you dont tell the child anything about drugs, then he will think its OK to do so. But if you tell him, and educate him as to why its bad, then he wont do it, or at least he will think twice. Its human nature!
